Reflection on Essay
Reflecting back on my essay, I think that I did well researching for the information and keeping everything connected to the topic. I found that I at the beginning of the unit I had a lot of trouble understanding politics. I am not someone who usually understands politics and so I was a bit worried when I heard about the essay we had to write. Once I started writing the essay I did have a bit of difficulty summarizing the information and keeping it within the word limit. I found that I had too much information at my disposal and it was hard to take that and keep it simple. When it came to giving real world examples of where fascism still takes place, it was quite difficult because it is not the most common system of government anymore. Personally, the conclusion was the easiest part because I got to give my personal opinion on how we can build the perfect society. I think that by researching about democracy, communism and fascism, I got a better understanding of each. I found that with a better knowledge of them I could come with my own conclusions on how we can build the perfect society. I feel proud of my final essay because I put a lot of research into it and came up with how I think the perfect society can be built.

Reflection on Video:
Reflecting back on my coast video, I am proud of it. I think that the information given to me in class really helped me to produce the video that I did. I enjoyed finding the pictures and putting them together into the video along with the information. I think that one difficult part was finding music that would go along with the video without being too overbearing and irrelevant. I did find it quite challenging to stay within the time limit and not have too much information. One problem for me is that whenever I do assessments I have so much information that I do not know how to summarize. I did come to a challenge when making my video because once I had my information in the video, it deleted half of it. I was a bit stressed at first but then I looked back at my notes and just took the information again and added it to the video. I think that loosing my information was beneficial because it forced me to take the information again and make it even simpler. For future videos that we do, I need to work on keeping the information simple, to the point and not straying from what is needed. Overall, I think that I produced a video that was informative and presentable.

Field Trip
Bridget and Olivia

On Wednesday 15th June, we went to Codrington College, Redland farm and aerial trekking. Mr. Piers our humanities teacher organized the trip for us so that we could see organic farming happening in Barbados and also see how people use the environment and ecosystem to boost tourism.
Behind the Codrington College we followed Patrick and went to see a Rastafarian shrine. We stayed at the shrine for about 10 minutes to look around and take in the atmosphere. After we met a man named Ras Mike who took us through some forestation and to an organic farm. At the farm we saw the all natural pesticides they use, instead of using harmful chemicals to kill bugs.
We hopped back on the bus and went to Redland farm. There Linda Herbert taught us how they turned a forested area into mixed farming with coffee beans, fruit trees (such as Mulberries) and hay. She took us to see the hydroponics and look at the different vegetables they grow such as lettuce. Linda took us to see the Redland Farm Shop and we saw what type of products they sell. We went back to Linda’s house and drank homemade lemonade. After saying bye to Linda we went aerial trekking.
The aerial trekking is in Jack in the Box Gully in St. Thomas. We learned how long they have been in existence in Barbados and how they plotted the course. Then after that we got geared up to go zip lining. On the zip line some of us conquered our fear of heights. Thanks to Mr. Piers we got to learn about all of these wonderful ways to save our environment and have sustainable ecotourism. We also learned that sugar cane is no longer a source of income for Barbados and the ways we can take rural land and turn it into a source of income.

Task 1: Ageing Population
Ageing population- When the average age of a country rises.
Population Policy- When the government creates new policies to help lower or increase the population of that country.
Pro-natalist- When a government creates new policies that are to convince people to have more children.
Pension- Money that is given to someone when they are not working.
Taxes- Money that is given to the government so that the government can use it for public reasons (eg. create better roads)
Retirement- When someone stops working for the rest of their lives.

Barbados Population Density
barbados_parishes.jpg
In the Barbados population density map most of the people are located in St. Michael. After that the people are mostly located in St. James and Christ Church. Then they are spread around in St. Lucy, St. Peter etc. This could be due to the fact that St. Michael has more fertile land. Bridgetown is located in St. Michael where there is a port. St. James and Christ Church could be densily populated as well because there is a lot of tourism attractions there and the land is flat. All the other parishes are somewhat populated because the land is rocky and not so good for growing crops. Most of the population is located around the west side of the island.

Notes
Why Birth Rate Changes:
Birth rate changes over time because as advances in technology are made people no longer need as many people to work the machines. In the beggining since people were poor they had children so that they had more people to help around to make money.

Why Death Rate Changes:
Death rate changes over time because there start to become cures for diseases. With cures people are more likely to survive a disease then in times when people did not know about diseases or cures to them.

Teacher reflection: This was an excellent piece of work Olivia. The range of sources you have used means that you have been able to write a thorough account of the main factors of his life and come up with a valid conclusion. Really well done.

Hippocrates especially believed that illnesses were caused by something natural (not gods or spirits) and that doctors should look for scientific explainations to cure someone. Since people believed what they did, their treatments had both scientific and religious aspects. Parts of their treatment included praying and sacrifing, but also doctors would observe and let the patient rest.Warfare had an impact on ancient Greek medicine. Since Greece was divided into independant city states, the city states were at war with one another. To keep soldiers healthy doctors had to be quick at finding ways to help injured or ill soldiers. Doctors were able to help patients with dislocated back bones for example by standing on their backs. They also learned how to heal open-wounds using heating cups or wrapping the wound in a cloth soaked in wine.Governments had an impact on ancient Greek medicine. They created public baths for people to wash off in. There were no real health facilities like running clean water though. There was a program for health which rich greeks tried to follow (brush teeth, proper diet etc.). Poorer greeks were thought not to have the time to follow the program.Religion definitly had an affect on ancient Greek medicine because people believed that spirits caused illness. With that in mind their treatment involved religious aspects such as praying to the god Asclepius, sacrificing an animal to Asclepius' statue or having snakes slide over the patient.Chance had some affect on ancient Greek medicine because when a soldier was wounded you had to heal him and some of their methods they discovered by chance. Since they had to be quick thinkers to keep their armies alive, doctors had to be reflective on what methods did not work in the past and what treatments did. There were individuals who made big advances in medical theory during ancient Greek times. Hippocrates believed that illness was not caused by spirits and that people should look for natural cures. Hippocrates also encouraged doctors to examine patients as a whole so that the area of the body affected could be treated.Transportation might have had something to do with medical advancement during ancient Greek times because when they traveled by boat to different countries to trade they might have found herbs which they thought were useful for their teas or ointments.Every part of your project was excellent. You worked really well together, you followed instructions carefully, the end result looked good, and you obviously learnt a lot as is shown in your essay. Maybe in the film you could have done a bit on Hippocrates, but apart from that brilliant. Quality work all in all. House points galore (2 lets not be too eager).
